Is alveolar osteitis more prevalent since COVID-19? A cross-sectional study

Objectives: The aim of the study was to analyze association between post-extraction alveolar osteitis and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in a single center. Material Methods: A monocentric cross-sectional carried out at NSVK Sri Venkateshwara Dental College Hospital located Bannerughatta, Bengaluru Department Oral Maxillofacial Surgery from January 2021 August 2022. sample comprised 50 participants; an extraction one or more teeth performed on women men age group 15–83 years returned with complication osteitis. Demographic details such as age, gender, medical history, personal habits, COVID-19 immunization history COVID-19, its complications were acquired patient’s case files throughout recorded. Descriptive statistics used collected data. Chi-square test check for groups. Results: Females (62%) majority participants average 40 years. Of patients reported hospital, 46% COVID-positive, 38% smokers, 48% consumed alcohol, 80% presented some underlying systemic condition. statistically significant seen positive condition P = 0.014 ( ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: Patients conditions prone dry socket; however, habits smoking, use tobacco showed no direct relationship. According study, previous infection did not have effects regards Thus, research recovered should be done understand etiology socket.
